Privacy policy

This English version is provided for your convenience. Our service is operated from France and governed by French law: in case of any discrepancy, the French version is the only legally binding text.

This policy describes how Syntalink, publisher of the Make Your Novel service, processes your personal data, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act.

Data controller

The data controller is Syntalink. For any question, or to exercise your rights: contact@makeyournovel.com.

Data we collect

• Account: email address and authentication data.
• Content: the projects, setups and text you create or generate.
• Billing: subscription, payment and credit history — card details are handled directly by Stripe and are never stored by Syntalink.
• Technical data: connection and usage logs needed to keep the service secure and working.

Purposes & legal bases

• Providing the service — performance of the contract.
• Billing and subscription management — performance of the contract and legal obligations.
• Security, abuse prevention and cost control — legitimate interest.
• Improving the service — legitimate interest.
• Marketing emails (news, offers) — on the basis of your consent, given through a dedicated, optional checkbox, separate from accepting the terms of service. You can withdraw it at any time, without giving a reason, using the unsubscribe link in every email or from your account. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of emails sent before.

Emails that the service cannot do without (security, account confirmation, billing) fall under performance of the contract and are sent regardless of that marketing consent.

Your text is never published, sold, or shared for advertising purposes.

Processors & recipients

To provide the service, we use suppliers acting as data processors:

• Supabase — database and authentication (hosted in the European Union).
• Vercel — application hosting.
• Stripe — payment processing.
• AI providers — generating the text of your novels.
• Upstash — rate limiting and abuse protection.

The content you submit for generation is sent to AI providers through their business interfaces (APIs), whose terms provide that it is not used to train their models.

Transfers outside the European Union

Some suppliers may process data outside the European Union, in particular in the United States. Those transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep your data

Your account data and your content are kept for as long as your account is active. When the account is deleted, your projects and the text attached to them are deleted. Billing data is kept for the period the law requires. Technical logs are kept for a limited time, for security purposes.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to and port your data. You can exercise those rights at contact@makeyournovel.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (www.cnil.fr).

Cookies

The service only uses cookies that are strictly necessary for it to work (session and authentication). No advertising or third-party analytics cookie is set without your consent. Essential cookies of this kind do not require prior consent.
